Third Advent: LOVE

Journey with us in a very special Upside Down Christmas podcast mini-series - featuring voices from across Canada who have found the themes of advent amidst life's greatest adversities.

Join Wendi in today’s episode as she chats with CareImpact’s Trauma Care Associate, Galina Smith, about how she has been personally impacted by the war in Ukraine and what loving our neighbour means in the midst of war and conflict.

Galina is a Russian immigrant who resides in Annapolis, Nova Scotia with her husband and two children. In one of her travels to the Ukraine a few years ago, she fell in love with the people of Ukraine and their language, creating long lasting and beautiful friendships with her country’s perceived enemies. She shares the complexity and heartbreak of being caught in the tension of differing viewpoints and political propaganda while feeling shame and grief over the acts of violence caused by her own country towards people she now considers family.

If you’re struggling to love and forgive those who have caused deep hurt and pain to your loved ones, this episode is a must-listen. Through Galina’s story, you can begin the journey of love and forgiveness this advent season.

Be sure to like, follow and subscribe to the 'Journey with Care' podcast - where we sojourn together sharing real stories and honest conversations of faith, reconciliation, and loving our neighbour - even in the messy.

FOURTH ADVENT COMING UP: featuring Neeba Abraham on the topic of JOY.

Sipping chai tea from her Hamilton, ON living room, Neeba chats with Wendi about her personal journey of finding joy in the midst of displacement and grief. Growing up as an East Indian girl in the Middle East, then making her way to Canada alone as a young adult has made her longing for 'belonging' an elusive concept for Neeba to experience JOY in. Neeba gets real about the recent loss of her dear father, and experiencing JOY even when life is anything but happy.
