Care isn’t just an idea — it should be a lived-out reality. That’s why we equip churches and communities to walk with people through trauma, not just pray from a distance.
— Danika Peters, BSW, RSW
  • My journey to CareImpact is deeply personal. I know firsthand the weight of poverty and trauma—and the isolation that often comes with them.

When I first entered the church, I was welcomed in, but healing still felt cold and distant. At the time, I couldn’t understand why. Now, after walking through my own healing and earning my Bachelor of Social Work, I see it clearly: the problem wasn’t a lack of care—it was a lack of tools and language to communicate that care in a way that truly reaches those in pain.

Poverty strips people of dignity, choice, and connection, forcing them to navigate suffering alone. I’m passionate about changing that narrative—to equip communities and churches with the tools to walk alongside those healing from trauma so that care isn’t just an idea but a lived-out reality.

  • At CareImpact, I focus on mobilizing faith communities to engage meaningfully with those facing poverty and trauma. My work includes:

    • Facilitating the Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) across Canada

    • Training churches & nonprofits in trauma-informed care

    • Researching poverty trends to support community-based solution

    • Co-producing a podcast exploring faith & social justice

    • Advising on national initiatives to drive systemic change

I’m also honored to represent CareImpact on the Canadian Poverty Institute’s advisory board, working toward collective impact across Canada.

  • Outside of work, my heart is for mentorship and discipleship. I lead youth, walk alongside women in challenging transitions, and work closely with my local church to create sustainable community impact.

    I’ve worked with:

    • Indigenous women in the justice system

    • Refugees & youth aging out of care

    • Foster families & children with disabilities

    • Women reintegrating after incarceration

No one should have to walk through suffering alone. My passion is to ensure that faith communities are not just aware of these struggles—but actively engaged in bringing healing and transformation.

    • Bachelor of Social Work – University of Manitoba (2024)

    • Advanced Trauma-Informed Care Certification

    • Cost of Poverty Experience (COPE) Trainer

    • ASIST: Suicide Intervention & safeTALK Suicide Alertness Training

  • I long to see compassion spread like wildfire—for the Church to fully step into its role as a place where love, care, and restoration aren’t just ideals but everyday practices.

    • I believe in a world where no one carries their suffering alone.

    • I believe the Church should be the place where healing isn’t just hoped for—it’s expected.

    • I believe we can build a future where people don’t just survive—but thrive.

Let’s create spaces of true healing, dignity, and belonging—together.
