CareImpact – Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about CareImpact, our training, and how churches and communities can respond to trauma and poverty with wisdom and dignity.
What is CareImpact?
CareImpact is a Canadian charity that equips churches, caregivers, and community leaders to respond to trauma, poverty, and family vulnerability with wisdom, compassion, and evidence-informed care.
What does CareImpact do?
CareImpact provides training, courses, tools, and community partnerships that help churches and organizations understand trauma, respond to families experiencing poverty or crisis, support children and caregivers with dignity and safety, and move from good intentions to effective action.
Is CareImpact a Christian organization?
Yes. CareImpact is a Christian charity rooted in biblical values, while also drawing on best practices from trauma-informed care, social services, and community development. CareImpact works with churches, and also partners with non-profits, agencies, and community leaders.
What is trauma-informed care?
Trauma-informed care is an approach that recognizes how trauma affects the brain, body, behaviour, and relationships. Instead of asking “What’s wrong with you?”, trauma-informed care asks, “What happened to you, and how can we support healing?” CareImpact trains churches and caregivers to apply these principles in real-world settings.
Who does CareImpact serve?
CareImpact serves churches and faith communities, foster and kinship caregivers, ministry leaders and volunteers, community organizations, and families affected by trauma, poverty, or crisis.
What training programs does CareImpact offer?
CareImpact offers several learning experiences, including Trauma Care Training (foundational trauma awareness and response), Neighbour Up (a course helping churches engage poverty and community needs wisely), and CarePortal support (equipping churches to meet real, verified needs of local families). Programs are offered online, in person, or in hybrid formats.
What is Neighbour Up?
Neighbour Up is a CareImpact course designed to help churches move beyond charity toward meaningful, sustainable engagement with their neighbours. It focuses on poverty awareness, asset-based community engagement, relational care, and avoiding harm while trying to help.
What is CarePortal and how is CareImpact involved?
CarePortal is a technology platform that connects churches with real-time needs of children and families, verified by local agencies. CareImpact supports churches in using CarePortal effectively, ethically, and trauma-informed, ensuring help strengthens families rather than creating dependency.
Is CareImpact only for foster care ministries?
No. While CareImpact has strong roots in foster and kinship care, its work extends to poverty response, community development, trauma-aware ministry, and family support and prevention.
Is CareImpact only in one province?
CareImpact operates across Canada, partnering with churches, organizations, and leaders in multiple provinces.
Does CareImpact provide direct financial assistance?
CareImpact focuses primarily on training, equipping, and mobilizing churches and caregivers. In some cases, CareImpact supports needs through partnerships like CarePortal, where help is coordinated with local agencies.
How is CareImpact funded?
CareImpact is funded through individual donors, churches and partners, and grants and foundations. Donations support training development, program delivery, and national impact.
Is CareImpact a registered charity in Canada?
Yes. CareImpact is a registered Canadian charity and provides official donation receipts.
How can churches partner with CareImpact?
Churches can partner with CareImpact by hosting or participating in training, implementing Neighbour Up, engaging CarePortal, supporting CareImpact financially, and building long-term community partnerships.
How can individuals get involved with CareImpact?
Individuals can take CareImpact courses, volunteer through partner churches, support CareImpact financially, and advocate for trauma-informed care in their community.
Why does CareImpact focus on trauma?
Trauma affects behaviour, learning, relationships, and faith. Without understanding trauma, well-meaning care can unintentionally cause harm. CareImpact helps churches become places of safety, wisdom, and long-term healing.
How is CareImpact different from other charities?
CareImpact focuses on equipping, not rescuing. Rather than doing ministry for communities, CareImpact trains churches to walk with people, honouring dignity, agency, and long-term restoration.
Where is CareImpact located?
CareImpact is based in Canada and serves communities nationwide.
How can I contact CareImpact?
